For some days now, it's been suffering and smiling with my fellow Nigerians over the issue of fuel scarcity. I laughed my ass out when i saw some funny fuel memes on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; but i was so disappointed in our government when i realised the issue had gotten out of hands.
Not only are the average Nigerians suffering from it, the rich Nigerians are also crying over the same issue. It has affected MTN, Airtel and Etisalat telecommunications, Banks and radio stations have started shutting down earlier than necessary, church choristers are now fast-forwarding their songs to manage fuel #lol, flights are being cancelled, and even an oyinbo (white) man was seen on a motorbike searching for fuel.
So, as it is now, there is no light to watch televisions, iron clothes, charge phones etc, no fuel for generators to enhance power supply, no fuel for cars to move around, and no fuel to enhance the generators for stable communication network. #wahaladey
To help ourselves, i think we should go back to the good old days when we were contented with using firewoods to cook, with using hot charcoal iron to iron our clothes and enjoying a happy family time by telling interesting moonlight stories.
So, till there is enough fuel supply, here are some surviving skills to pull through.
- use firewood to cook
- Use Lanterns or candles for lighting but don't forget to blow out the candle before you retire for the night.
- Gather your kids and tell them folk stories. That will replace television for now, too much television decreases our intellectual prowess anyways.
- Park your car and start trekking since everyone is doing it now and moreover, it's a very good and advisable exercise.
- Use our old fashion iron with hot charcoals to iron your clothes.
- Take a lukewarm shower
I know the heat is killing with air conditions or fans but don't worry, you will survive by taking a lukewarm shower. Standing under a freezing shower might sound like the quickest way to bring your temperature down but your body will react to a dramatic change like this by trying to preserve heat. If I'm hot and I go under a cold shower, I automatically shut down the blood flow to the skin and trap the heat inside me rather than let it escape. It's better to use water that is in the 20s Celsius than water that is in the 10s. It's better to have a warmer shower that is cool enough to lower the deep body temperature but is warm enough to allow the blood to the surface of the skin.
So as not to waste firewood to warm the water, just put some water into bucket and leave it under the sun. That way, it will be warm enough to use in the evening before retiring to bed.
Just like Buhari, old things are getting back in vogue. So, for the moment, instead of blaming Goodluck Jonathan for everything, just invest your energy into surviving this difficult moments in your life.
I hope my survival skills help someone. Plz share and pass this message on to save someone.
